The 52nd Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists (RANZCO Virtual 2022) Annual Scientific Congress begins on Saturday, February 26 — and the whole Media MICE team couldn’t be more excited for this year’s show.
Things “Down Under” can be a little bit extra: Temperatures can be extra hot, wildlife is extra dangerous and kangaroos are extra tall, reaching up to 3 meters (or 8 feet). The same maxim applies to RANZCO — in that it’s packed with scientific goodness. Running until Tuesday, March 1, this proper Aussie show has it all: the meat of the online seminars and symposiums, hot chip e-posters and presentations, and a nice dab of sauce (provided by yours truly).
When RANZCO Virtual 2022 opens, a key session to start with is Practice Managers’ Conference: COVID & Coping (part 1) as COVID-19 remains a serious problem. Another opening highlight is the Opening Plenary session, as there’s likely to be a great outline of some of the can’t-miss moments for the upcoming conference.
Fair Go, Mate
On Saturday, you’ll definitely want to check out the ZEISS Hosted Lunch Symposium. This symposium will cover “every step of glaucoma, retina and cataract workflows from patient education and assessment, to planning, treatment and follow-up,” which should provide some real actionable insight. Zeiss always puts on a good show with their production values, so this should be one symposium that’s easy on the eyes, mate.
Getting to Sunday, the Media MICE team will be covering Rapid Fire Session: Pediatrics/Strabismus/Uveitis. We always enjoy watching rapid-fire-style symposiums as the format encourages spirited debate among the participants. Expect to hear some fascinating insights from some of the leading ophthalmologists at RANZCO.
Any symposium that dives deeper into what happens post-diagnosis is fair dinkum in our book, so we’re looking forward to watching What Happens After You’ve Diagnosed. Streaming on Monday, you can expect this symposium to have a particular focus on neuro-ophthalmology, which is always a fascinating subject (especially when it comes to this writer’s particular obsession: neurosyphilis.) So, if you don’t want to look like you’re “a few stubbies short of a six-pack…” make sure you make it to this stream.
She’ll Be Right
If you can’t contain your excitement about these scintillating seminars, then no worries mate, you can already head online to the RANZCO virtual platform and check out some of the on-demand sessions and posters that are already there. A Case Series of Unilateral Treatment Failure in Bilateral Intravitreal Bevacizumab Injections by Dr. Amelia Bai of Queensland Children’s Hospital (South Brisbane, Australia) really caught our attention. Also, given that it’s age-related macular degeneration awareness month, we couldn’t resist looking at An Audit of Wet Age-Related Macular Degeneration During the COVID era by Dr. Bhavesh Gopal at Queen’s Medical Center (Nottingham, England).
So, if you want to check out these outstanding symposiums and posters, and much more, make sure you come virtually “Down Under” for RANZCO 2022. You can count on us to bring you all the latest news and updates from the event, so keep following our social media pages.
