Sign up Now for the Refractive, Cornea and Lens Surgery Online Course!

More than 400 ophthalmologists attended the first period of the Refractive, Cornea and Lens Surgery course from the University Miguel Hernandez and the Division of Ophthalmology.

And now, following the success of the first course, the second — and newly revamped — portion is now available online, and participants can sign up anytime and take the course at their own convenient time. Designed for ophthalmologists who want to acquire additional refractive skills, this course helps practitioners by teaching proper patient and surgical technique selection, and much, much more.

Led by Dr. Jorge Alió and colleagues from the University Miguel Hernandez and VISSUM Instituto Oftalmológico de Alicante, Spain, this course will illustrate refractive surgery methods based on clinical research and practice. Dr. Alio, along with his group of co-teaching experts, have pioneered corneal and intraocular surgical techniques in cornea and have authored hundreds of papers, chapters and books on the topics of refractive, cornea and lens surgery.

This is especially important now, as residency training programs do not include refractive surgery training as a subspecialty anywhere in the world. “Refractive surgery has made an evolution towards practice and with less interest in formal education,” said Dr. Alio.

“This is not only an opportunity to advance education in refractive surgery, but also in related areas . . .to perform refractive surgery adequately, you have to know the art and practice of cataract and lens extraction — and also to use the tools of cornea surgery to solve problems of refractive surgery,” said Dr. Alio. “Conversely, [surgeons need] to use the tools of refractive surgery to solve corneal problems.”

This second course comes at a time where much education, communication and information sharing has transitioned from in-person to online, thanks to the continuing COVID-19 pandemic. Ans as a result, new multimedia tools have been developed that allow courses — such as this — to proceed.

“We offer full knowledge, with multimedia access and all the scientific background that could be necessary to receive the adequate education on a topic that, so far, has received insufficient academic attention,” continued Dr. Alio.

They are also offering a 50 percent discount off the normal course price of €960 for Young Ophthalmologists who are members of the International Society of Refractive Surgery (ISRS). More information about the course can be found by visiting refractivesurgeryonlinecourse.com
