The Pan-American Association of Ophthalmology (PAAO) was founded in 1939 by two Americans and one Brazilian. Today, another Brazilian — now living and working in Canada — helps to break down ophthalmic geographical barriers by speaking directly to Asia-Pacific alongside the APAO.
