Ophthalmology is strongly represented by societies in many countries of the world — even most. Optometry is a completely different matter, with some countries having a strong heritage of optometry, and others not. In some countries, there has even been historic antagonism towards optometry. On World Sight Day, we thought it important for our global eye care community to hear thoughts on this matter from World Council Of Optometry President-Elect Prof. Peter Hendicott. It is clear on a global scale, optometry has an important role to play in eye care. Whether optometry makes its presence strong as a front line of eye care in every country remains to be seen. We wish optometry and the WCO all the best in continued efforts.
